World Cup excitement is growing in Argentina, with the country’s national football coach Jorge Sampaoli announcing the preliminary World Cup squad on Monday. 

The final 23-player roster will be announced next Monday at a press conference.

The pre-selected players are:

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Manchester United), Wilfredo Caballero (Chelsea), Franco Armani (River Plate) and Nahuel Guzmán (Tigres).

Defenders: Nicolás Otamendi (Manchester City), Marcos Rojo (Manchester United), Federico Fazio (Roma), Nicolás Tagliafico (Ajax), Javier Mascherano (Hebei Fortune), Marcos Acuña (Sporting Lisboa), Gabriel Mercado (Sevilla), Eduardo Salvio (Benfica), Cristian Ansaldi (Torino), Germán Pezella (Fiorentina) and Ramiro Funes Mori (Everton).

Midfielders: Éver Banega (Sevilla), Giovani Lo Celso (PSG), Guido Pizarro (Sevilla), Manuel Lanzini (West Ham), Ángel Di María (PSG), Lucas Biglia (Milan), Ricardo Centurión (Racing Club), Maximiliano Meza (Independiente), Pablo Pérez (Boca Juniors), Enzo Pérez (River Plate), Leandro Paredes (Zenit) and Rodrigo Battaglia (Sporting Lisboa).
