Bye bye TV Pública: Telefe to broadcast national football team matches in Argentina

Argentina's state television network will no longer be in charge of broadcasting national football team matches.

The end of an era. TV Pública will no longer broadcast the matches of Argentina’s national football team.

The right to show the games has been taken up by Telefe, which previously led coverage of the Albiceleste.

All of Argentina’s matches, including the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024, set to take place in the United States, and qualifying round matches for the next FIFA World Cup 2026 and upcoming friendly clashes are covered under the new agreement.

The news was announced by the website of the Las Tres Pelotitas (“Three little balls”) channel, where they announced that  Pablo Giralt and Juan Pablo Varsky would be in charge of the sports broadcast, backed by a team of sports journalists.

“We’re always looking to get the most attractive content to the public wherever they are. That is why, to have the team of world champions once again within the family of Telefe content, a champion among multi-platform audiences, fills us with pride and reaffirms our commitment to the public,” stated Darío Turovelzky, EVP Broadcast & Studios, Latin America from Paramount Global, the channel’s owners, in a statement.

“Starting in June, the world champion Argentine National Team and Telefe will be together again, accompanying the passion of all Argentines,” the channel confirmed in a post on social media.

It is worth remembering that sports network TYC Sports will also broadcast Argentina’s national team matches while DSports, only available via pay-TV channel DirecTV, will have all the matches in the Copa América 2024.

Matches will be available to view on Telefe’s free-to-air channel, as well as its Mi Telefe app.
