Argentina has welcomed a new ambassador to its shores with the arrival of Japan’s new envoy in the region.
Ambassador Yoskitaka Hoshino, who arrived in this country on November 18, replaces outgoing envoy Hiroshi Yamauchi. Previously he served as Japanese ambassador to El Salvador, giving him valuable regional experience.
In his first official message, Hoshino expressed his joy at having been assigned to “such a beautiful country with a long history of friendship with Japan,” manifesting his firm commitment to deepen the already excellent bilateral relationship between both nations at political, economic and personal levels.
Earlier this month he presented his credentials to Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, formally beginning his mission.
Ambassador Hoshino underlined the fundamental role of the Japanese community in Argentina, expressing his gratitude and respect for contributing to the solid friendship, confidence and affection toward Japan, as well as highlighting the importance of this year’s 140th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Argentina as a key opportunity to honour that legacy and project the future of the bilateral relationship.
In conclusion, he pledged all his efforts, together with his team at the Japanese Embassy to “enrich the mutual cooperation between Argentina and Japan.”
Hoshino entered the diplomatic service in April, 1989, a month after graduating in law from Tokyo University. His first important post was as Counsellor to Japan’s Permanent Mission to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) in 2007, becoming Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Latin America and Caribbean Division in 2010.
Between 2014 and 2019 he spent five years representing Japan in Brazil, both at the Embassy in Brasília and as Consul-General in Rio de Janeiro. His first ambassadorial posting was to El Salvador in 2023 before being reassigned here last October.
