An officer in Argentina’s Army has been found dead at one of the internal checkpoints of the Quinta de Olivos presidential residence, where President Javier Milei lives.

The victim has been identified as Rodrigo Gómez, 21, who was reportedly carrying out security duties at the residence in Vicente López, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

The soldier was found dead in the early hours of Tuesday at the Quinta de Olivos, government sources confirmed.

Perfil reported Tuesday that the soldier had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Following the discovery, security protocols were immediately activated and emergency services called, with paramedics confirming the death, the sources added.

Federal Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado is at the scene and all possible lines of investigation open, said those with knowledge of the case.

Arroyo Salgado has ordered the involvement of federal forces “to carry out the necessary forensic examinations and clarify the circumstances of the incident,” sources said.

Various branches of the federal forces are now conducting forensic examinations to establish the circumstances of the death.

According to reporting by the Agencia Noticias Argentinas news agency, Gómez was assigned to security duties at the residence.

He was found dead at one of the internal posts, prompting authorities to activate emergency protocols and call the emergency services.
