President Javier Milei’s government is eyeing a number of legislative victories as it enters the final week of extraordinary Congress sessions.
The ruling La Libertad Avanza party and its representatives in both chambers have requested special sessions for this Thursday and Friday (February 26 and 27), within the extraordinary period called by President Milei earlier this year.
The final possible date for legislative debate is February 27, before ordinary sessions begin on March 1. The Milei administration is looking to finalise the passage of several reforms, which the President wants to announce in his state-of-the-nation address that same day.
The ruling party caucus is seeking debate in the Senate on February 26 on three subjects: the nomination of ex-lawmaker Fernando Iglesias as Argentina's ambassador to the European Union, the government’s bill to amend the National Glacier Protection Law and its reforms to the Juvenile Penal Code, which would lower the age of criminal responsibility to 14.
The following day, the upper house is being asked to debate the Labour Modernisation Bill and ratification of the EU-Mercosur trade deal.
