Bullrich lashes out at ‘dirty campaigning’ ahead of election

Opposition presidential candidate Patricia Bullrich lashed out at “dirty campaigning” on Wednesday after scandalous audio began circulating on social media.

The Juntos por el Cambio leader made the remarks after posts began circulating online purportedly featuring the voice of Carlos Melconian, her chosen pick for economy minister if elected. 

The content of the audio has not been verified and the Times was unable to confirm if they were unaltered genuine recordings. 

Questioned as to whether there is a dirty campaign against her candidacy and team, Bullrich responded in an interview: “All the time.”

She told Radio Rivadavia that the footage was created with “voices and artificial intelligence.”

“They cut videos, they put audio that nobody knows where it comes from.... Let's go to the things that are explicit and concrete: [the publisher of the audios] Tomás Méndez is not a journalist, he’s a piece of trash, not in the sense of a person, but by the things that does," charged the PRO leader.

"I think it's all dirty. Today dirty campaigns are an instrument of the campaigns. They should be traceable, because you can't just put anything anywhere,” said Bullrich, slamming the "fifth-rate operations.”

Economy Minister Sergio Massa, also in the running for the Casa Rosada as the presidential hopeful for the ruling Unión por la Patria coalition, also voice support for Melconian, dismissing the alleged recordings. 

"It's all rubbish," Massa said on Tuesday. "He is a real professional, with whom I get on well on a personal level and I think differently about the path to a solution.”
