The arrival to power of the main figures of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in Buenos Aires Province differ among themselves.
The lawyer Sebastián Pareja arrived via Eduardo ‘Lule’ Menem, since his political career dates back to 2003 when ex-president Carlos Menem was seeking a comeback. He stayed close to that circle until he entered the Senate as a legal advisor, where he also assisted the Mauricio Macri administration, as well as working with the RENAPER national civil registry.
Always maintaining his relationship with the ‘Clan Menem,’ Pareja became a political partner of Congress Speaker Martín Menem, who introduced him to Presidential Chief-of-Staff Karina Milei as a person of extreme confidence with an in-depth knowledge of Buenos Aires Province. Since late 2023, he has chaired the party in the province, permitting the transfer of PRO leaders to the LLA and acting as a driving-force behind the “Liberty or Kirchnerism” campaign.
The main voices of the force on social media accuse him of being the main culprit for the defeat for having messed up the scrutineering on election day.
Ramón Vera arrived at the request of his daughter Andrea, who formed part of the Jóvenes Republicanos, the youth wing of the party. From there she accumulated support until becoming the main spokesperson in the district of Moreno and western Greater Buenos Aires, weaving a close relationship with Pareja, her father’s sidekick in the provincial assembly of the LLA.
One important fact about Andrea is that she has been denounced for illegally practising medicine in different neighbourhood campaigns by the ruling party, allegedly vaccinating, prescribing drugs and diagnosing without a medical degree. The Universidad Austral, from which she affirms to have graduated, has communicated that they are not her alma mater.
Ramón began his political career as a school councillor for the Kirchnerite Unidad Ciudadana in 2017 and in 2019, he was a mayoral hopeful for Frente de Todos. In 2023 he was elected provincial deputy for the libertarian coalition.
Within the party he is accused of being authoritarian in his decision-making and acting as a political puntero (dealer) in various neighbourhoods of the First Electoral Section. In 2011 he was denounced for distributing rotten chicken in Moreno schools as a contractor of the School Council and he has no university degree.
Sebastián Pareja and Andrea Vera are running for the national Congress for La Libertad Avanza in Buenos Aires Province: the fixer is fifth on the list of candidates and the militant for Javier Milei from the start is 16th.
