Central Bank approves printing of 10,000- and 20,000-peso notes

The 10,000-peso note will feature the images of Manuel Belgrano and María Remedios del Valle. The 20,000 peso one will have Juan Bautista Alberdi, the person most admired by President Milei.

Amid the rampant inflation, the Central Bank approved the printing of 10,000- and 20,000-peso notes in the course of this year on Friday.

“The printing of these denominations will facilitate transactions between users, will make the logistics of the financial system more efficient and will help significantly reduce the purchase cost of finished notes”, the monetary authority informed.

The image to be used of Belgrano is a portrait attributed to French artist François Casimir Carbonnier.

The depiction of the Independence heroine María Remedios del Valle belongs to the work 'La Capitana' by Argentine artist Gisela Banzer.

The reverse’s main image will be an artistic recreation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag which took place on February 27, 1812.

The star of the 20,000-peso note will be Juan Bautista Alberdi, who inspired the 1853 Constitution, whose portrait will be in the front. The main illustration of the reverse will be a recreation of the childhood home of the lawyer, diplomat, economist, writer, philosopher, journalist and politician.

The new bills will have the same size as notes in circulation and will be printed in cotton paper, with its traditional protections such as the watermark and the security thread.

At the same time, special printing systems security elements will be added aimed chiefly at the public in general, which will also enable machine recognition.

The Central Bank expects the new banknotes to be available starting in June this year.
