Poll: Milei’s party, Peronists neck-and-neck in Buenos Aires Province

Tight race expected in Buenos Aires Province elections; Fuerza Patria slightly ahead of La Libertad Avanza-PRO, according to new poll, but within margin of error.

With less than a week to go before key elections in Buenos Aires Province, a new poll shows President Javier Milei’s right-wing coalition and the opposition Peronist movement are running almost neck-in-neck in the nation’s most-populous region.

The survey by consulting firm Aresco, consulting voting intentions, in Buenos Aires Province shows that Sunday’s legislative elections could go down to the wire.

The poll, based on more than 6,000 respondents and taken on August 27, gives the opposition Fuerza Patria ticket 41.7 percent of the votes compared to 39.5 percent for La Libertad Avanza – a difference of just over two percentage points, just outside the margin of error.

The consulting firm describes the scenario as “parity” and “slightly favourable” to the Peronist front.

Looking at the rest of the electoral map, the left-wing Frente de Izquierda y de los Trabajadores (FIT) appears in a distant third with 6.4 percent, followed by Somos Buenos Aires with 5.9 percent.

The Aresco poll also warns of several factors that could change the results: turnout is expected to be low and the research does not take into account the possible carryover of votes from candidates on other lists, elements that could influence the final result.

La Libertad Avanza has agreed a temporary alliance with the ex-president Mauricio Macri’s PRO party for the local elections, unifying the right against Peronism.
