Buenos Aires Province Governor Axel Kicillof has called on voters to express their “anger against austerity” at the ballot box next month in the nation’s largest electoral battleground.
Speaking at an event in La Plata alongside local mayor Julio Alak, Kicillof called on residents to back the Peronist ticket in the upcoming regional elections.
”We need the anger and indignation against the austerity measures to be expressed not only behind closed doors: it must also be expressed at the polls, by choosing the Fuerza Patria ballot, which is the only one that will defend rights on 7 September,” Kicillof said, referring to the name that most Peronist leaders have united around.
Along these lines, the governor reinforced his electoral message by highlighting the importance of the legislative elections in “stopping” deep spending cuts introduced by President Javeir Milei’s national government since taking office in December 2023.
“A very important game is being played in the upcoming elections: we must decide whether to put a stop to Milei or give him a blank cheque to deepen the chainsaw against production and work,” Kicillof warned.
While the national government is determined to “destroy federalism and defund the province,” he argued, his administration is increasing its “efforts to sustain the public works that improve the living conditions of our people.”
