City elections: Initial results show La Libertad Avanza surge in capital

with 90% of polling stations reporting, La Libertad Avanza's slate headed by Manuel Adorni has 30% of the vote, trailed by Peronist Leandro Santoro on 27% and Silvia Lospennato of PRO on 15.9%.

President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party is on track to finish first in the midterm legislative elections in Buenos Aires City – a stunning victory for a force that has only been in existence for just over four years.

Milei’s hand-picked candidate, Presidential Spokesperson Manuel Adorni leads the race in a provisional count, a few points ahead of Peronist candidate Leandro Santoro (Es Ahora).

Trailing in third was Silvia Lospennato of PRO – a devastating result for the party that rules the capital through City Mayor Jorge Macri.

Speaking at PRO’s bunker in the capital on Sunday night, Lospennato admitted to supporters that the results were not what the party had hoped nor expected.

Taking to the stage at his Es Ahora Buenos Aires bunker, Santoro said the results were "the end of a cycle" – a reference to PRO's disappointing performance.
