Appeals court orders Bonadio to release Cristóbal López, Fabián De Sousa from jail

Judge sets bail at 60 million pesos each, with owners of Indalo Group set to be released on bail as early as next week.

The Federal Appeals Court yesterday ordered Federal Judge Claudio Bonadio to free the imprisoned Kirchnerite-allied businessmen Cristóbal López and Fabián De Sousa on bail.

The court had already ordered their release a fortnight ago on the grounds that their freedom could no longer obstruct the investigation of the graft ad money-laundering charges against them but Bonadio had blocked the move until now. The judge yesterday set their bail at 60 million pesos each and the two men are expected to walk free by early next week.

The release of the two Indalo Group businessmen had already been ordered in the case investigating tax evasion to the tune of eight billion pesos by their Oil Combustibles energy company.

Two other defendants in trials involving the 2007-15 Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration were also granted release last week – Fernando Esteche, leader of the now dormant Quebracho far left grouping, and businessman Gerardo Ferreyra.

Esteche was released on Thursday in the case investigating the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding with Iran after being remanded in custody for almost two years. His bail was set at 400,000 pesos.
Ferreyra, a leading defendant in the cuadernos ("notebooks”) case probing widespread public works corruption, was freed last Wednesday.
