Manuel Adorni has been consecrated as the big winner of the legislative elections in Buenos Aires City, consolidating La Libertad Avanza as the main political force in a district that up until now was the stronghold of PRO, the centre-right party co-founded by Mauricio Macri and Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.
In his victory speech, the freshly elected porteño lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to austerity and the chainsaw cuts promoted by President Javier Milei. Adorni called for Argentina to “continue deepening the change” from the City Legislature.
“It was not simply a local election for [City] lawmaker. It was a choice between two models: the Kirchnerite model – that of decadence, poverty and the past – and that of freedom. The citizens elected La Libertad Avanza as their representative. Today freedom won!” declared Adorni from the Hotel Libertador, where a climate of euphoria prevailed.
He was accompanied onstage by the Milei siblings and a good part of the national cabinet, witnesses of the moment in which the enthusiastic gamer and presidential spokesman announced that he had won the battle “against Kirchnerism,” represented by Leandro Santoro, and delivered a devastating blow to Mauricio Macri’s PRO.
Milei's spokesman took just over 30 percent of the vote, according to the provisional count. The euphoria in the libertarian bunker was inversely proportional to the climate at PRO’s space, where Silvia Lospennato was relegated to third place behind Santoro, marking the end of the yellow party’s historic predominance in the district.
“We are the best instrument to end, once and for all, Kirchnerism, which has been an enormous tragedy for Argentina” declared Adorni.
Aping the “change” of the title of the Cambiemos coalition that took Macri to the Presidency in 2015, Adorni said La Libertad Avanza is the only force that can challenge the Peronist opposition.
“Let's make tabula rasa”, said Adorni in this sense, inviting the leaders of other spaces – such as Macri’s PRO – to join the libertarian space.
During his victory speech, the winning candidate said the backing he won at the polls reflected clear support for the ideas of the national government.
Thanking the “wonderful cabinet” and President Milei, Adorni hailed Karina Milei, whom he defined as the “miracle worker.”
President Milei also took the stage, declaring it to be a decisive day for the “ideas of freedom.”
“Today the yellow bastion was painted purple. From now on, let's paint the whole country in purple!” shouted the President to fans.
Milei dedicated most of his speech to thanking his political backers, supporters and Cabinet. He did, however, pick out two individuals in particular – his top advisor Santiago Caputo and sister Karina.
“I want to thank all the team, the government – understanding the historical challenge, they put their bodies to the campaign. This would not have been possible because of those giants that constitute the iron triangle: Santiago Caputo and the great architect, 'The Boss,' Karina Milei,” he declared.
The City election not only strengthened La Libertad Avanza’s legislative presence in the federal capital, it also positions Adorni as a leading figure within the libertarian sphere, beyond his role as presidential spokesperson (which comes with ministerial rank).
The victory opens a new stage for La Libertad Avanza in the capital – which it will seek to make its own in the next mayoral elections in 2027.
