President Milei weighing up trip to United States for trade deal signing
If confirmed, the trip would be the President’s 15th visit to that country since taking office in December 2025.
Argentina’s President Javier Milei is considering a new trip to the United States to ink the signing of the trade agreement with Donald Trump’s administration.
Government sources told the Noticias Argentinas agency that Milei is considering a trip. The comments were made a day after the announcement of the new trade and strategic agreement with the United States, with Washington announcing the "framework" for a deal to slash tariffs has been agreed.
The possible trip would add to the work carried out in recent weeks by technical teams from both countries, who are finalising the main points of the deal, which includes tariffs, increased bilateral trade flows and chapters covering the agricultural, industrial and services sectors.
At the Casa Rosada, officials say the Executive intends to conclude the agreement in 2025, and that Milei considers it important that he be present in-person for the signing, in line with his strategy of deepening alignment with Washington.
According to diplomatic sources, the agreement does not alter Argentian's Mercosur commitments but moves towards a framework of greater openness and commercial cooperation.
If confirmed, it would be Milei’s 15th trip to the United States since taking office in December 2023. He was there last week for an event in Miami.
