Milei to travel to United States next week for meeting with Trump

Argentina’s President set for seventh visit to United States in a year; Milei will take part in CPAC forum, which will be hosted at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

President Javier Milei will travel to the United States next week to participate in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) forum at US president-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Senior government sources say Argentina’s head of state will meet with Trump, the Republican leader who won Tuesday’s US presidential election and another four-year term in office, while at the event.

“There is going to be a meeting," a senior source with access to the Presidential Office told the Noticias Argentinas agency.

Milei is also expected to meet with billionaire Elon Musk, a key supporter of the US president-elect’s campaign who could be incorporated into Trump’s future government, at the CPAC forum, which will run from November 14 to 16.

Trump and Milei have not yet spoken since the Republican leader’s election win, though Argentina’s leader did congratulate him on social media.

“@realDonaldTrump, congratulations on your formidable election victory. Now, make America great again. You know you can count on Argentina to carry out your task. Success and blessings. Best regards,” read a post on the X social network, which is owned by Musk.

The US president-elect will be inaugurated on January 20, 2025, at the US Capitol in Washington. Milei intends to attend the event in support of Trump.

Argentina’s President has a busy schedule this month. On November 17, Milei will meet French President Emmanuiel Macron before travelling to Rio de Janeiro for the G20 Leaders Summit, which is being hosted by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. On November 20, he will host Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Buenos Aires.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s Foreign Ministry, now headed by Gerardo Werthein, continues its search for an ambassador to represent the nation in Washington.

Werthein, who held the post until last week’s appointment as foreign minister, wants a candidate with strong ties to either Trump or the Republican party.
