Former US ambassador to Argentina named one of world's most influential Jews

Marc Stanley, Washington's former envoy in Buenos Aires, recognised as one of the most influential Jewish people in the world.

Marc Stanley, the United States’ former ambassador to Argentina, has been recognised as one of the most influential Jewish people in the world by a top Israeli newspaper.

Stanley, 68, was one of four leading diplomats to share a high position in The Jerusalem Post’s list of ‘50 Most Influential Jewsw.’

The lawyer and diplomat, who finished his term as ambassador to Buenos Aires this past January, brought “the voice of American Jewry to the global stage,” wrote the Israeli newspaper.

Stanley was ranked 17th, sharing the post with peers Danny Danon (Israel's ambassador to the United Nations), Yechiel Leiter (Israeli ambassador to the United States), and Charles Kushner (US ambassador to France).

The ranking was topped by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who finished ahead of Steve Witkoff – US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East – and Mossad spy agency chief David Barnea in third.

“In a world reshaped by regional conflict, global polarisation and the shifting currents of diplomacy, four Jewish men devoted to diplomacy stand out as beacons of clarity, consistency, and commitment to the Jewish people,” wrote The Jerusalem Post, explaining the selection of the foursome.

“From the United Nations to Washington’s diplomatic circles, from academic halls to faith-based communities, their influence has been transformational this past year, as Israel and the Jewish people continue to suffer the trauma of October 7 and the multi-front wars it has unleashed. To navigate a complex and stormy world requires key leadership, as these individuals have shown,” it concluded.

Stanley was nominated for the post in Buenos Aires in August, 2021 by then-US president Joe Biden and formally sworn-in in December that same year.

A civil trial attorney, political activist, Jewish community leader and philanthropist from Dallas, Texas, he was both a fundraiser and donor to Biden’s successful presidential campaign.

During his time in Argentina, Stanley won plaudits for his straight-talking diplomacy and ability to converse and engage with politicians from across the political spectrum.
