Argentina were disappointingly defeated in the opening match of the ‘Cup of Nations’ tournament, held at the Leichhardt Oval stadium, Sydney.
Ranked 14th in the world, the Koreans controlled possession early on in the game when Moon scored in the fourth minute. Argentina managed to hold their own through half-time with skilled forward Florencia Jaimes up front.
Unfortunately, the Koreans dominated the second half, with goals from Hwayeon Son in the 53rd minute, Sodam Lee in the 56th, and Soyun Ji twice in the 68th and 75th minutes.
Hope is not lost though, with a match between the Albiceleste and New Zealand on Sunday in Brisbane and another with Australia in Melbourne next Wednesday.
he Cup of Nations, which also includes Australia and New Zealand, is a warm-up tournament for the Women's World Cup which begins in June in France.
This year will be Argentina's third appearance at the Women’s World Cup finals – in USA 2003 and China 2007, the Albiceleste were eliminated in the group stages.
