Inter Milan seal US$25M transfer of Lautaro Martínez from Racing

Serie A club pays reported 22 million euros (US$25.7 million) for Martínez, with the player penning a five-year contract.

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Racing Club forward Lautaro Martínez on a long-term contract.

The Serie A club paid a reported 22 million euros (US$25.7 million) for Martínez, with the player penning a five-year contract.

The 20-year-old turned down an offer from Real Madrid in order to get more playing time at Inter, the player's agent claimed.

On Wednesday, Martínez said: "I expect to adapt quickly to a new type of football. It's very different from Argentine football, but I think Serie A will be very important for me to continue improving and will add other qualities to my game."

Martínez is considered to be one of Argentina's brightest young talents and scored 18 goals in 28 appearances last season.

He was included in Argentina's preliminary list for the World Cup but did not make the final squad.

A statement on Inter's website said: "Lautaro Martínez is officially an Inter player. The Argentine forward has signed a contract with the club that runs until 30 June 2023."

Martínez will be joining another influential Argentine at the San Siro – Inter's star player is high-scoring forward Mauro Icardi.
