President Javier Milei will look to kickstart his party’s election campaign with a large rally at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires next month.
Milei, 54, will promote his new book – the humbly named La construcción del milagro (“The construction of the miracle”) – with a speech at the October 6 event, which will be open to the public.
Participants must register for free tickets in advance if they wish to attend the rally at the 15,000-capacity venue in Villa Crespo.
According to reports, Argentina’s President is drawing up a list of musical numbers – some with political connotations – that he will perform at the event.
The La Libertad Avanza leader’s idea is to star in a mega event that seems to be closer to cabaret than economics lecture, with a mini concert accompanying a speech outlining the thesis of his book.
This is not the first time Milei has chosen to sing before his public. In May 2024, he delivered a similar performance at the Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires. Accompanied by a band of political allies, he sang one of his favourite songs, ‘Panic Show,’ by La Renga.
The head of State was accompanied in his presentation by national deputy Alberto ‘Bertie’ Benegas Lynch on drums and Benegas Lynch’s brother Joaquín on lead guitar. Marcelo Duclós, Milei’s biographer, was also there, playing bass.
Most of Milei’s Cabinet is expected to attend next month’s rally, which will take place less than three weeks before key nationwide midterm elections. The event is being heavily promoted on the ruling party’s social media pages and by the President’s closest allies.
The head of state’s new book – which costs 32,000 pesos, with a discount for those ordering early – includes a selection of Milei’s speeches and essays.
Running to 576 pages, it is published by Hojas del Sur, which issued the following press release: “The reader may go into the ‘miracle’s kitchen’ and manage to understand the theoretical framework behind ‘the recipe’ which saved us from what would have been an unprecedented political, social and economic crisis.”
It continues: “The other side of what may have been a colossal tragedy for Argentina, shows us the most successful stabilisation case in world history, based on a programme which his detractors called ‘impossible,’ but which, in practice, quickly proved its efficacy. There was a fiscal adjustment by 15 points of the GDP (five in the Treasury and 10 in the Central Bank), while wholesale inflation was lowered by 54 percent per annum to 1.5 percent, with a trend towards its total disappearance by 2026, as indicated by healthy economic theory.”
