Milei begins to move out of Hotel Libertador ahead of Olivos switch

President Javier Milei is leaving behind the lights of the city centre – where he has been based for months – and his move to Olivos presidential residence on the outskirts of Buenos Aires is underway.

President Javier Milei is on his way to Olivos.

Argentina's presidential residence will soon be occupied by the head of state, who is departing the Hotel Libertador in the centre of Buenos Aires that has been his home for many months.

They have already moved some of the president’s belongings to Olivos, on the outskirts of the capital, and are making special modifications to areas of the residence to accommodate Milei's five English Mastiffs. The work is being hurried along.

No timing was specified about the head of state's move to the traditional residence, though the transfer is believed to be imminent.

Sources claim Human Capital Minister Sandra Pettovello will live in one of the guest houses onsite, while Cabinet Chief Nicolás Posse and Milei's sister, Karina, will also have their own spaces.

It is worth noting that Milei himself has stated that his plan is to work more at Olivos than at the Casa Rosada, Argentina's presidential palace and the seat of Government.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the president will begin only travelling to the centre of the capital on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the future.

Work on reinforced walls for the kennels is complex and his inner circle says that the head of state would bear the costs of those improvements out of pocket, even with some imported supplies, which delayed the progress of the works precisely because they had to be paid for in dollars and Milei did not wish for the Central Bank “to play favourites."

One unknown is raising more speculation than any other –  the ruling party remains tight-lipped about the president's girlfriend, actress Fátima Florez, who is currently on a theatre tour in Mar del Plata. There is absolute secrecy, no word, about whether she will have her own space in Olivos as well.

Milei travelled last week to Mar del Plata to see the impersonator’s show, and they shared a (notably over-) passionate smooch when he went up on stage during the final curtain call.
