Ultra-rightist charged in CFK assassination attempt case ejected from Congress

Leonardo Sosa, activist from the Revolución Federal group, was wearing a red wristband which allowed him to move about Congress freely, which sparked repudiation among Unión por la Patria legislators.

Leonardo Sosa, a member of the ultra-right group Revolución Federal linked to the attempt to assassinate then-vice-president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in September, 2022, was present at the Chamber of Deputies during the debate of the “Omnibus Law” (Ley de Bases).

Deputy Speaker Cecilia Moreau (Unión por la Patria) warned about the activist’s presence in the gallery, prompting Speaker Martín Menem to order the security staff to locate and evict the man, as well as find out how he entered in the first place.

An irate Moreau (closely linked to last year’s run-off runner-up Sergio Massa) warned that Sosa was “in the House tweeting and threatening Deputies. As well as denouncing him, I want to ask you to protect the integrity of the Chamber of Deputies, which has the staff for the purpose. Plus this person who is facing trial should leave immediately.”

Besides this, she specified that the subject in question had entered with a red wristband, which allowed him to move about Congress freely. Moreau demanded an investigation into who gave Sosa that wristband.

After being evicted, the Revolución Federal activist posted his defence on social networks: “Cecilia Moreau is more worried about my presence in Congress than that of terrorists who murdered people in the 1970s, who were part of the Government she was involved in until December 10,” he tweeted on his X account.

“If she has so many doubts and arguments about the attack on Cristina, she can go to [prosecutor Gerardo] Pollicita’s office and provide any information and evidence she deems relevant to the case. These cases have been frozen for six months and are not progressing, because as is known, there is no relevant evidence to accuse me of anything. Be true to the homeland, deputy @ceciliamoreauok, and cooperate with the courts so we can all benefit: my case is closed and you have no more doubts," Sosa concluded.

The activist was arrested together with three other members of Revolución Federal, who were then released by the Federal Appeals Court. They were accused of seeking to impose their ideas violently through protests where they made guillotines and insulted Government officials. The event took place in the context of the attempt to assassinate Cristina Fernández de Kirchner outside her Recoleta flat in September, 2022.
