President Alberto Fernández spoke Tuesday with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, with the latter saying that production of the Sputnik V vaccine had been stepped up in order to meet Argentina’s requirements.

The two leaders conversed for 30 minutes, with the Peronist leader praising the Russian-made coronavirus vaccine and describing that the government’s mass vaccination scheme was “excellent.”

Putin, for his part, said Russia was doing all it could to ensure supply of the vaccine met Argentina’s demand and invited Fernández to visit Moscow.

Fernández said he would definitely visit, describing the link between the two nations as a “priority.” He also asked for Moscow’s support on debt restructuring talks with the International Monetary Fund.
