Oscar-winning Spanish actress Penélope Cruz and her compatriot Antonio Banderas, who is up for Best Actor at the February 9 Oscars, will star in a new film from Argentine directors Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat.

The film, entitled ‘Competencia Oficial’ ("Official Competition"), will start shooting in Spain at the end of February, production company Mediapro Studio said in a statement.

Along with Cruz and Banderas, the cast includes veteran Argentine actor Oscar Martínez, who previously worked with Cohn and Gaston on ‘The Illustrious Citizen, and Spaniard José Luis Gómez, who won the Best Actor Award at Cannes for Pascual Duarte in 1976.

Cruz, who won an Oscar for Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, will play the role of a director who shoots a film "financed by a millionaire avid for notoriety" and stars "two actors with very different careers," played by Banderas and Martínez, according to Mediapro Studio.

For Cohn and Duprat, who had great success with The Illustrious Citizen, which won a Goya for Best Latin American Film and three Platinum Awards, this will be the third co-production with Mediapro Studio, after My Masterpiece and 4x4, the statement added.
