Covid-19: What’s happening with flights to and from Argentina?
On Thursday, Argentina banned international flights from Europe, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea and Iran for the next 30 days, with outgoing flights in those directions also possibly affected.
Amid confusion over the government’s suspension of flights from countries “affected” by the coronavirus via a Thursday decree, officials confirmed yesterday that as from Monday aviation will be restricted within the framework of the emergency measures adopted to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Until then foreigners are free to return to their respective countries, but as from Monday flight restrictions will kick in for the next 30 days.
Argentines can also return home on any airline until Monday but as from then only certain Aerolíneas Argentinas flights will be operating, Transport Minister Mario Meoni confirmed yesterday.
Meoni said that both his and the Foreign Ministry would be checking up with international airlines to ascertain which persons need to return home from Argentina and abroad, describing this as a “complex question.”
Meoni made these comments to the press following a Cabinet meeting headed by President Alberto Fernández.
On Thursday the latter announced that Argentina would be banning all international flights from Europe, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea and Iran for the next 30 days with outgoing flights in those directions also possibly affected.
Anybody coming from the above countries will be obliged to observe quarantine for the next fortnight, as will all citizens showing symptoms of coronavirus or in contact with confirmed or probable cases.
