Milei schedules packed US agenda with Chile stopover
President to attend Trump-backed ‘Board of Peace’ summit in Washington before returning for Latin America summit and ‘Argentina Week' in New York; Chile inauguration and domestic ‘Tour de la Gratitud’ also on schedule.
President Javier Milei will set off on an intense international tour this week, beginning with a trip to the United States that has already prompted several last-minute changes to his diary.
The La Libertad Avanza leader’s schedule was reshaped after an invitation from US President Donald Trump to attend the inaugural gathering of the so-called “Board of Peace,” the Republican’s initiative aimed at addressing the conflict in the Middle East.
Milei is expected to travel to Washington DC on Wednesday to take part in the multilateral forum on February 19. The gathering reportedly includes a select group of countries, with notable European absences. In South America, only Paraguay and Argentina are said to have signed up.
Following the event, Argentina’s President is due to return briefly to Buenos Aires before flying back to the United States for a March 7 summit of Latin American leaders convened by Trump. Among those expected to attend the Florida summit are Paraguay’s Santiago Peña, El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele and Ecuador’s Daniel Noboa.
The meeting is set to focus on China’s growing influence in the Americas, an issue that has become a priority for the US administration.
Days later, Milei will head to New York for “Argentina Week” in Manhattan, running from March 9 to 11. He is scheduled to speak on March 10 and will be accompanied by members of his government’s top tier, including Cabinet Chief Adorni.
The tour will also include a brief stop in Chile for the inauguration of president-elect José Antonio Kast at La Moneda Palace on March 11.
Back home, Milei plans to resume his domestic “Tour de la Gratitud” to voters who backed him in last year’s midterms, with a visit to Tucumán pencilled in for March 19.
