Three injured in letter bomb blast at school in Buenos Aires, say police
Three people were injured Friday after a mail bomb exploded at the Superior Gendarmerie School in Buenos Aires.
Three people were injured on Friday after a mail package exploded at the Escuela Superior de Gendarmería in Buenos Aires.
Two of the injured were taken to a nearby medical centre with burns, but their lives are not in danger, according to a preliminary report from the Buenos Aires City Police.
The incident occurred in the early afternoon local time at a building located around 800 metres from the Casa Rosada.
According to the police report, Gendarmerie personnel – also known as Border Guards – were handling a parcel that had been received four months earlier when the explosion occurred.
Firefighters and ambulances arrived at the scene minutes later.
After the injured were taken away, police cordoned off the area, shutting down traffic and evacuating the building and others on the same block, local media reported.
Officers from the bomb squad were working at the scene. National Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva was also present, though she left minutes later without answering questions.
Argentina’s National Gendarmerie is a federal security force that operates at borders, strategic sites and in matters of internal security.
