Putin hails relationship with Argentina, says Sputnik deliveries will continue

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Argentina will receive regular shipments of the Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19 for its citizens and has confirmed that talks are ongoing over the production of a local version of the jab.

Speaking at an event with foreign ambassadors in Moscow, the Russian leader received the credentials of Argentina's new ambassador, Eduardo Zuain, and said that he valued his country's "strategic cooperation" with the government in Buenos Aires.

"We attach greater significance to strategic cooperation with Argentina. We maintain good relations with President Mr. [Alberto] Fernandez. We highly appreciate his commitment to efficient mutual coordination in the political sphere and further expansion of ties in the economic sphere," said Putin.

The Russian leader, who highlighted that Argentina was the first country in Latin America to register the Russian Sputnik V vaccine for use and to use it widely, said that regular shipments of the vaccine would continue.

"Regular supplies of the vaccine to Argentina have been organised. The idea of localising the vaccine production in Argentina’s territory is being discussed," confirmed the Russian president.
