Laboratorios Richmond set to begin manufacturing Sputnik V second doses
President of the Laboratorios Richmond pharmaceutical firm, Marcelo Figueiras, confirms that local production of the second dose of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine will start next Monday.
The president of the Laboratorios Richmond pharmaceutical firm, Marcelo Figueiras, has confirmed that local production of the second dose of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine will start next Monday.
He also said that the company was awaiting the arrival of the shot's "active component" on a shipment from Russia.
"We have already produced 450,000 doses and today we are producing the second batch of about 500,000. On Monday we began the production of 150,000 doses of component 2," he said.
"The active component used for the production of vaccines has to come from Russia, from the Gamaleya Institute. We have planned the arrival of another 560 litres that they promised us will allow us to produce almost one million doses," he said.
Meanwhile, Figueiras indicated in radio statements: "We hope that it will follow this one and not be interspersed with another because we cannot stop, we have to continue with the production chain."
Speaking about the delay in manufacturing, he explained: "The production of the vaccine is a complicated process, the substance has to be processed, filtered, dosed and frozen. We are advancing in the production chain and gaining independence."
Regarding the batch of the first doses that the laboratory completed, he said that they are still being studied in Moscow, stating: "The production we made is being analyzed, the quality control is done by [Argentina's drug regulator] ANMAT, us and Gamaleya."
