D-Day remembrance at the British Cemetery
The worldwide commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day also included a ceremony at the Buenos Aires British Cemetery (the scene of a memorable celebration of the Poppy Day centenary last November) this week.
The grave of Kenneth Charney, an RAF ace who saw action that June 6 in Normandy in 1944, was the chosen rendezvous point for several British community members to pay their respects to all those who took part in that historic turning-point.
A special mention was made of Henry Albert Venn from Quilmes, a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Reserve, who died on the beaches at Normandy.
Archbishop Greg Venables conducted the service and Tim Lough (representing the local branch of the Royal British legion) provided a brief account of the importance of D-Day.
Among those also present were WW2 veteran Ronnie Scott, already turning 102 this October, and John Hunter, whose assistance in covering this ceremony we gratefully acknowledge here.
