Alberto Fernández to visit Chile's Piñera in Santiago this month

President Alberto Fernández will travel to Santiago on January 26 to meet with Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, a source close to the Presidency confirmed on Friday.

The Peronist leader was due to travel to Chile at the beginning of the coming week, but that trip has now had to be rescheduled after Piñera entered preventative isolation this week after having previously been in close contact with someone infected with Covid-19.

The upcoming trip will be Fernández's first state visit to Chile since he took office on December 10, 2019.

The meeting between the two leaders will take place on tJanuary 26 at the Palacio de la Moneda.

Fernández will travel accompanied by Foreign Minister Felipe Solá, and by Economy Minister Martín Guzmán.

During his visit, he will also hold meetings with other government officials and will participate in a meeting with Chilean businessmen.

Piñera and his wife, Cecilia Morel, entered a 14-day isolation period this week after being notified on Tuesday that they had been in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.

Both are currently asymptomatic, according to a government statement.
