Argentina’s iconic kioscos will soon expand into e-commerce by offering a new slate of services including the receipt and delivery of online shopping purchases, credit and debit cards, ID documents, passports and paper mail.
The new services were agreed upon at a meeting Thursday between the Labour Ministry and the sector’s union representatives.
Argentina’s newspaper and magazine stands are suffering a severe crisis as readers turn en masse to digital platforms.
Their expansion into additional services is welcome news for unions, which have long been fighting for reforms to the sector.
Kiosko owners “must request an additional permit to offer these services”, the Labour Ministry said in a statement following a meeting with SIVENDIA and SDDDRA union bosses.
