Argentina’s public television station will tonight broadcast a 1996 documentary film titled Hundan al Belgrano (in English: Rule Britannia).
The documentary written and directed by Federico Urioste “seeks to demonstrate how Britain has sought to expand its domination over South America since the eighteenth century. This detailed account explains how the Malvinas Islands have provided the strategic support”, according to the film’s IMDB page.
The film, an Argentine-British co-production, will screen at 9pm local time on the TV Pública Argentina.
The documentary relies on interviews, fictionalised scenes and archival material to reconstruct the context that led to the 1982 Malvinas (Falkland) Islands War between the two countries, which culminated in the dramatic sinking of Argentina's ARA General Belgrano cruiser.
