This week in the Buenos Aires Times: Attack in NYC, Boudou, the EU-Mercosur trade deal and Nora Cortiñas

It's been another packed week in Argentine news and as always, you'll find all the big headlines and breaking news in this Saturday's Buenos Aires Times.

We begin in the only place possible, the shocking terror attack in New York City, in which five Argentines were among the eight killed. With Rosario mourning its dead, we look at the victims and their stories, while Americas Quarterly's Brian Winter shares his own personal tribute to those killed on the tragedy, explaining why the fallen represent the very best of Argentina.

In news closer to home, we cover Friday's breaking news: the arrest and detention of former vice-president Amado Boudou. As the circle tightens around Kirchnerite officials accused of corruption, the ex-number two to former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is the biggest name yet to find himself in handcuffs.

From London, Fermín Koop brings us two exclusives: first, an exclusive interview with legendary human rights activist and Mothers of the Plaza De Mayo-Founding Line member Nora Cortiñas, who airs sharp criticism of the Mauricio Macri administration and calls for justice in the Santiago Maldonado investigation. Cortiñas met with UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn on a visit to London and even sparked a brief diplomatic intervention from the Argentine Ambassador to London while there.

Secondly, Fermín Koop also explores an economic angle in this week's feature-length article, consulting with local and European sources to bring us the very latest on the trade deal between the Mercosur and the European Union. Are the long-time talks really reaching a conclusion and will they result in a deal by yearend, as promised by President Mauricio Macri? Experts are sceptical, as they explain to the Times, with key sticking points yet to be ironed out, with beef quotas remaining a major obstacle.

We also round-up the biggest local political and economic developments of the week, with our editorial tackling the controversial resignation of Alejandra Gils Carbó.

Add in our regular contributions from Dan Edwards - who this week previews the crucial first Superliga Superclásico clash between Boca Juniors and River Plate - and Cristiana Visan, as well as exclusive columns from Robert Cox, Andrew Graham-Yooll, James Neilson, Michael Soltys and Agustino Fontevecchia and you have a bumper, packed-full tenth edition of the Buenos Aires Times.
