Bristish ambassador's residence celebrates first 100 years

Congratulations to the British Embassy in Argentina, which last week celebrated the first 100 years of the Ambassador’s residence. The stunning building in Recoleta, which which has been declared a National Historic Monument of Argentina, is considered to be one of Britain’s most beautiful diplomatic residences in the world. More than 200 guests attended a reception last Friday to commemorate the anniversary, at which the ambassador unveiled a special ‘coffee table’ style book, British Residence 1917-2017 detailing the history and heritage of the building, with photographs and images from the past century. During the event, UK Ambassador Mark Kent paid tribute to the his predecessors and those who built and have cared for the building, saying it was much more than just a temporary residence for a diplomatic envoy. “The Ambassador’s residence is not only the temporary residence of a diplomatic representative, it is much more than that: it serves to link the ambassadors to society. It is our letter of introduction, a tool to entertain our guests, the place in which we lodge the high officials and members of the Royal Family when they are visiting, and it is also a link with our history and a symbol of that continuity.”
